Its not easy to pin-point exactly where Zero Footprint Coffee begins. The development of a carbon-free, forest-restoring coffee supply has been underway for more than 25 years, and its history is illustrated in the various labels and and partnerships that brought the program to this point. (The various labels show that it’s not what’s on the outside, but what’s on the inside that counts. This product has an ideal built in and has always paid a minimum $3.25 US/lb.)
Zero Footprint Coffee began with the publication of Merchants of Green Coffee’s 2020 Vision, a 2018 approved but stalled $10M Development Bank loan to Mesoamerican Development Institute (MDI), some government corruption, damaging low coffee prices, migration issues and a pandemic.
Today’s version of Zero Footprint Coffee filters and concentrates the complexity of a climate change coffee solution that was just as relevant and needed back in 1990s as it is now. Transparency and accountability are used to deal with issues.
